Space Cacti Field Practice

FTC 6175, Buff n' Blue Space Cacti are just about ready for competition!  The particles are brushed in with the space cacti (and oh my, their signature sound!), pulled up with a vertical elevator, and a flicker launches the particle into the center vortex!

Parents, got that?!

Our first tournament is set for tomorrow at 'Iolani School at 1:45pm.  Please see this letter from Mr. Dengler and Mr. Lai.  

Quick reminders - wear closed-toe shoes, pack and bring your safety glasses, bring water or something to drink and a snack.  We'll be there until about 6:30 pm.

Hayden's family will bring the shirts to wear - our color this year is the color of steel, or aluminum (as that's what we use)..."graphite gray".

Slow Motion Video!

The band on the vertical elevator kept rotating off of the wheel.  Why? How does the team prevent this?  Using slo-motion video analysis, the team discovered that the particle (ball) rotation was pushing and rotating the band.  Now onto finding ways to reduce friction and reduce the rotations.

Progress!

Team 6175 is making progress!  Still loving the space cactus (note the cactus on the front to pull in the particles), and working on attaching and connecting all the electronic components.  

Tournament dates have been set for #6175 - calendar is updated as well.  

Saturday, 10/29 at Iolani (2 pm - 6pm)

Saturday, 11/5 at Kalani HS (8am - noon)

Saturday, 11/19 at Punahou (8am - noon)

We are working as a team to find more time to work in Gates - likely Saturday mornings as the team prepares for their first tournament.  Stay tuned!
